What does THORSBERG stand for ?
The
Thorsberg Moor
in northern Germany revealed one of the most significant archaeological
find complexes in Germany. Throughout many centuries the ancient
Germans had deposited their offerings to the gods at this site. Many
weapons and items of armour and also fully preserved pieces of clothing
were recovered from the bog. Finds like these enable us to reconstruct
the appearance of ancient people with some historical accuracy.

The
editors of Thorsberg-Miniatures (Andreas Strassmeir, a Museology
graduate and Stefan Loewe, a qualified model maker) are already
professionally engaged in historical reconstructions and research for
museums. But we are also figure enthusiasts who have collected and
painted figures over many years for pleasure. Now we have combined
hobby and profession to produce our own favourite miniatures, making
them available to other discerning collectors for a reasonable price.
It is our greatest concern to make our figures historically accurate
and in accordance with the current state of academic research. To
ensure the greatest possible authenticity, we go the extra mile and
often consult reliable experts. This high degree of authenticity
concerning our archaeological, historical or ethnological
reconstructions is made apparent to the customer through the sources
and background information provided in the leaflets included in each
kit.

Regarding the choice
of subjects, our main focus is on Ancient and Medieval History as
much as on Native Americans. But in order to cater for the broad
spectrum of collectors, we will also cover other time periods in our
constantly growing range of products. If you have any ideas or
suggestions, you are welcome to share them with us.
As a
matter of
principle the masters are sculpted by internationally renowned
artists. But the promotion of lesser known talented sculptors, who
are at the beginning of their artistic career, is also one of our
main concerns. The white metal kits are cast by German
artisans,
who are known for
their first class craftsmanship and high quality materials.

stands for historically accurate miniatures of the highest quality
made in Germany!
What
is the meaning of our logo, the Triskel?
The
triple spiral is called triskel or triskelion. This ancient sacred
symbol has been know to many peoples since the Neolithic age. It
therefore has many different meanings. In Germanic mythology the three
swirling arms of the sign also symbolize the unification of past,
present and future.

As
figure
manufacturers we portray warriors of the past using the most up-to-date
academic research. By doing this, we intend to set a trend for the
future of figure modelling.
